Green Painters Tape

Posted on August 19, 2014

TAPING OF FLOOR PROTECTION TO HARDWOOD NOT RECOMMENDED - Frosted finish products especially susceptible to damage.

We have had some incidents recently of installers reporting damage to the finish of a newly installed floor. The installers were using green, or painters' masking tape to hold sheets of floor protection in place after the installation. The sheets of protection were taped directly to the hardwood flooring. When the tape was removed, it stripped away some of the floor's finish with it. When using a form of protection (eg, cardboard sheeting), do not tape the sheets directly to the floor; tape them to each other.

Myths of Grouts & Sealers

Posted on October 06, 2013

Grouting is one of the final steps in a tile installation, and the most important. A beautiful installation can be ruined at the grouting stage. The biggest myth is that sanded grout is for floors only, and that unsanded grout is for walls only. It is true that sanded grout is the most suitable for floors, but did you know outside projects require an outside grade of grout? Unsanded grout is only good for 1/16” grout joints & this is typically used during commercial 6x6 tile installations.

Introducing Color into Your Home

Posted on September 18, 2013

Color adds SO much zest to life! Personally, I think I would go crazy in a bland neutral world. With that being said, color can have many different psychological effects on people and can evoke strong emotions- you have to be mindful of your application.

One of the biggest concerns with using strong color is that you may tire of it quickly, or it may date. There are so many ways that you can introduce color into a space without being married to it.

Color Psychology

Posted on August 14, 2013

Color is the most exciting and easier way to decorate your home. Neutrals are the greys and tans, whites and creams. These colors are muted and restful, and can always be counted on to add a warm timeless component to any color scheme. Bold brilliant colors will add vibrancy and drama. Colorful design features can be all a room needs for some energy or "wow" factor.

After recently moving my mother from the house she has been in for 28 years it dawned on me that a house is a house until you make it a home. As we said our good byes to the old house I know that it will not be the color of paint on the walls, the flooring tiles or any of the “Pretty” things (and my mother does love pretty) that I will remember.

Transitions are part of your floor that is often overlooked- until the first time you walk across them! Make sure when having two different flooring products meet up in your home (ex. carpet to tile) that you understand what the transition will be to join these two products. There are hundreds of transitions on the market that accommodate all different heights, materials, stairs, capping etc.
